I photographed leaves, stems and flowers but did not appreciate the significance of a front view. I have enlarged a portion of another more distant view. Is this able to help confirm your identification?

Thanks for adding that extra photo, it does indeed look like aciculiformis. The other flower seemed to have the free points eaten off hence me thinking squamatus.

That is great to have an ID. I have GPS and a photograph of the immediate locality so will be looking again next year. If I am lucky I will photograph from very angle and report again. Thanks Tobias.
