Species identified by Jim Bariesheff, who was recommended by CSIRO Entomology. Alison Rowell remembers that another S. collecta was recorded by a ranger near Point Hutt about 10 to 20 years ago. They fly on warm days, but later in the season than S. plana.
General appearance and hindwing pattern seems consistent with this species, although from records seen on the ALA and Bold Systems 4 the species has a mainly northern NSW and SE Queensland distribution.
I saw that as well, but have come across a thesis and some Vic government documents saying that it is in Victoria. But I'm a little unsure if it could be a sub-species or not based on a few comments. Could be worth some more investigation....
Hi everyone, I am currently working on a paper on the Synemon collecta species group. It would be great if you were willing to share your observations concerning locality (even if just very general) and potential hostplant association. My understanding was that this species feeds on Austrodanthonia, but I am not sure there is evidence for that. Did you observe oviposition on this plant? Either way, it is great to see that this species is still present in the ACT. Cheers, Axel Kallies
Hi @Kallies , I'd be more than happy to share my findings with you. We did a full NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) assessment of the site, so we will have some good data relating to the composition of the groundstorey. Please send me an email to sam@capitalecology.com.au.
