The leaves of citrinus are 5-8 mm wide, the tips sharp tipped. There are several other red flowered Callistemons in Plantnet. Callistemon viminalis, which is planted in Canberra sometimes, likes wet feet, is weeping, and has leaves 3-7 mm wide that do not have sharp tips. The diagnostic that separates it from all the other red Callistemons is that the bases of the stamens are fused into a ring. In all the others the bases of the stamens are free from each other.
