Black Gum is listed as nationally vulnerable and occurs naturally in the ACT, but only in the Kowen Area. Plantings near Valor Park in Watson have self seeded into Majura Nature Reserve - an apparent successful translocation of a threatened species. There are two plants great than 10m (one has fallen down and is lying on its side), which are probably the original plantings. There are 4 saplings of 5-10m in height, Five saplings of 1-5m in height and one sapling less than 1m.
