First record of a female S plana on Mt Majura close to a site where males were observed 4 years earlier. Indicates possibly a viable breeding population.

User's notes

I discovered this moth yesterday during weeding late afternoon; the moth was mainly walking and performed very short (about 10cm long) low dashes of "flight"; I collected it with my hands, brought it to near-by car and took above photographs using a book as background. Several males of S. plana have been reported further north east (uphill) to this site. I will upload the photographs and details.

I think this is the female, bright orange hindwings, with black markings. Given you found it on the ground. They are describes as being more sedentary and wait for the males to find them. Great photos, nice to record both sexes at roughly the same site close by to each other, suggesting this is a viable breeding area for this endangered species.
