Once they have seeded it takes years to eliminate them, but not necessarily seven years weeding.

Thanks, MichaelM. The old Osteospermum vs.Dimorphotheca discussion arises again. My understanding is that, at present, perennial forms are regarded as Osteospermum and annual species as Dimorphotheca. I am not concerned about which we call them on CNM, as even various herbaria do not seem to agree. This, however, is a perennial form, and therefore my original determination.

Thanks Geoff - I was doing no more than following the nomenclature of the Atlas of Living Australia. I think all our records are of the perennial form and I wasn't even aware that there is an annual form - will double check ALA treatment.

The Australian Plant Census regards the name Dimorphotheca ecklonis as a synonym of Osteospermum ecklonis. https://biodiversity.org.au/nsl/services/search?product=APNI&tree.id=3029293&name=Dimorphotheca+ec%25&inc._scientific=&inc.scientific=on&inc._cultivar=&inc._other=&max=100&display=apni&search=true
I don't bother with checking what ALA says. Thst site is linked to the Australian Virtual Herbarium, which can be months behind in changing plant names to accord with the APC.

The South African National Biodiversity Institute says Dimorphotheca ecklonis was once called Osteospermum ecklonis. I can't recall where i have read it, but i thought Osteospermum was now a small genus of annuals. The APC tick is given against Dimorphotheca ecklonis.

You are right Mike. I misread the article I gave the link for.
