The stamens in the middle of the flower are not clear enough to decide whether this is Bulbine bulbosa or Bulbine glauca. A photo of the leaf might have helped in making the decision.
I would incline to Bulbine bulbosa. The main flower stalk is not bluish. The petal size in bulbosa is 9-22 mm, and in glauca is 9-17 mm, so I am not sure what you mean by 'robust' particularly as no measurement of flower size is given. I cannot tell from the blurred background whether itnis rocks or dirt.
To roymcd. What was rhe background of the photo - rock or dirt? Were the surfaces of the flower stalk and keaves waxy ir not? Bulbine bulbosa has up to 50 flowers per cluster, glauca up to 75. This character is not a good one to make an ID on. Stamen characteristics and leaf and stem colour and waxiness are.
Thanks Betty and Michaelb. The background is a rock and the terrain was rocky. Sorry I'll think more about taking shots of the leaves etc next time. Cheers, Roy :-)
