It might be an Erica. Without information about plant height and flower length, ut is impossible to say.

Thanks George this species has the potential to become a major invasive weed. Parks and Conservation Service are likely to be in touch re its destruction. Where all plants less than a metre in height?

Hi Michael yep pretty sure not many that high - I'll head over there tomorrow morning and check it out again - count the actual abundance and extent. It stood out because it has a limey tinge to the foliage - Kathy
