This species looks the closest match I could find... Despite the colours being quite different.

Aaron do you happen to have a good side on shot of the head? A protruding lower lip is diagnostic of the genus. If my ID is right this would be the first ALA record for this species in our region.

Murray Fletcher's key and pictures of the Eurymelinae point to this species. Not commonly encountered. This individual was probably emerging from hibernation

Hi Michael, I've just updated Image #2 which kind of shows a bit poking out near the lower lip. I have a few other images lying around on my phone that I took of this bug, let me know if this one helps get a positive ID? Cheers

Thanks Aaron - helps confirm the ID as correct

What was the length of this leaf hopper?
   29 Sep 2017
From memory I'd say no more than about 20mm max. Much smaller than a cicada for example.

I just filled in the animal size field (which I hadn't done earlier, because I reported from the mobile app, which doesn't provide these additional custom attribute fields yet - but will do soon in coming release(s)).

Thanks for the size confirmation, Aaron. The addition of the size in the mobile app sounds like a good future enhancement.
