Thomasia has five stamens and often no petals. The staminal column with numerous filaments looks like Hibiscus. However I cannot tell from the photos whether the style is deeply branched or not, nor can I see any linear epicalyx segments. Difficult.
Could be. The broad epicalyx segments fit, and the leaves are not too bad. Extremely depauperate for Pavonia. It does not look woody in the photos. Were there any cleistogamous flowers? The flowers also lack the typical purple at the base of the inside of the petals.
Thanks Geoff - Pavonia does seem a likely fit. Sorry Betty it was wet and cold and I didn't spend my time looking at the flowers, but I am back that way this weekend and was going to make a collection. It was semi-woody. I will try and photo any odd looking flowers
