The fourth image has enough detail to ascertain genus but none of the images provide the characters needed to be certain of species.

For next season, what information is needed in the photography?

Hi Steve, Betty Wood has provided some answers to this question on a previous sighting here: http://canberra.naturemapr.org/Community/Sightings/Details/3371603 where she also makes mention of the PlantNET key which you can look through for this genus here: http://plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/NSWfl.pl?page=nswfl&lvl=gn&name=Wahlenbergia I find Wahlenbergias one of the more difficult plants to get acceptable images of with their often delicate long thin stems that move in the most minimal of breezes leading to images that can be out of optimal focus and have blur owing to subject movement. Their tendency for the flowers not to open until late morning when the wind has come up doesn't help.

I agree with Ken about photographing Wahlenbergias. About the worst photos in our books are of Wahlenbergia, and they were the best of many tries. Admiitedly all those photos were from the time digital photography was any good. Using manual focus might give better pictures. With all small plants that fade into the background, use something black like a black T-shirt as background. The best background is black velvet, which Don used to use. Betty
