C. atrovespa is rarely recorded outside of the ACT the next nearest recorded locations are Queanbeyan and the Tinderry's. If it is A. phaeoclavia this location is along way east of the next nearest record in the ACT

User's notes

This looks like Arachnorchis atrovespa (thin clubbed mantis orchid) but that was not on the drop down list.

C. phaeoclavia has been recorded from the coastal side of the Great Dividing Range towards Braidwood.

Thanks Tony - just using the Atlas of Living Australia records is a bit of a trap that I often fall into - what should yellowboxwoodland be trying to capture in their photograph to help distinguish the two?

They are almost impossible to tell apart, but supposedly they have a different pollinator (so catch and id the pollinator!). From my own observations it seems that C. phaeoclavia has less white on the central area of the labellum and the clubs on the sepals are slightly thicker.

Yep, this is a real tricky one, could be either in my opinion. As Tony says, definitive ID from pollinator (Lophocheilus anilitatus for C. phaeoclavia and Thynnoides gracilis for C. atrovespa), not that this is generally a lot of help in the field!
