This species may bring on severe vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach cramps and so merits the name Poison pie, even though it falls well below the Deathcap in its effects. I know of one case of Hebeloma crustuliniforme poisoning in Canberra, perhaps a decade ago. The victim was hospitalized but recovered fully. When I spoke to him after his recovery he told me that he had been convinced he was going to die and that he hoped never to go through that experience again.
