I have had another think about this. My original suggestion of Cryptandra propinqua was based on the light brown colour of the bracts at the base of the flowers. Unfortunately the scientific description of Cryptandra propinqua gives the light brown bracts at the base of the flowers as a defining character, which this plant has. He also stated that Cryptandra propinqua is coastal between Bundaberg and Jervis Bay. The local species, Cryptandra speciosa, has flowers with the flower tube (below the spreading lobes) 2.2-3.5 mm long. In Cryptandra propinqua the flower tube is only 1-2.5 mm long. If you have not made a note of the flower length, a macro photo of the stem would be needed to see whether the hairs are mostly simple and pressed close to the stem (speciosa) or star-shaped (propinqua). Sorry to have mucked you around like this.

I have now blown up the stems. The hairs appear to be simple rather than star-shaped, so I have decided it is Cryptandra speciosa after all, despite the colour of the bracts.
