I think this is Amanita phalloides (death cap mushroom). Note, somebody had previously knocked these out of the ground.

This looks like a bolete (meaning a fleshy, stem-and-cap fungus but with a spongy pored layer, not gills, on the underside of the cap). The deathcap has gills. Unfortunately I can't stick a name on this one.
