I think this might be Centaurea calcitrapa. There are quite a few of them on the western nature strip next to the bike path- perhaps introduced with road building material?
Silke it has been present in Canberra for some time. I have seen it emerge on the floodplain of Jerrabomberra Wetlands in an area disturbed for powerline work, so not sure that seeds may already have been present in the Majura Valley.
I collected a Herbarium specimen CANB 865442.1 from Mugga Mugga in 2013. This used to be a declared noxious weed but like most weeds there are not many specimens in the Herbarium.
