This is the second ACT sighting of this potential environmental weed. It is one o keep an eye on
User's notes
One plant on western edge of Majura Road. I walked 100m up and down on both sides of the road and didn't see any other plants. Phalaris and Fescue are quite dense in the vicinity and may not provide suitable habitat.
Michael, I spent the weekend down in the Monaro shire in and around Jindabyne and Kosciuszko National Park and wow can really see the impact that this weed has down in that area. It is absolutely everywhere, on the side of the road almost continuously in many places. Glad we are taking such a proactive approach in the ACT from preventing it from taking hold here.
It seems to be native to the New England region and has spread south in various patches. Most sightings are near roads - is that how it spreads or is that where the observers are? It s planted next to the Visitors Centre at the Botanic Gardens. I think the STEP and ANBG people should be removing the spent flowers before they can spread seed.
