From a close look at Braby p. 171 the underwing pattern (3 eye spots) looks to be consistent with being a Spotted Brown H. paradelpha , male

Hi Ian, Michael. I think this is a male Common Brown; late Nov/early Dec seems a little early in the season for the Spotted Browns, and markings seem consistent for a male Common Brown rather than Spotted Brown.
