This is one of those Cheilanthes that makes identification difficult. It has some of the characteristics of C. austrotenuifolia, C. sieberi and C. distans. If pushed I will confirm C. distans in its low-hair summer garb.

I reported this to indicate what plants were around other plant sightings and my thoughts did not go beyond Cheilanthes sp. Are there any features I could photograph to make identification easier? I thought the new growth might help.

White hairs, particularly on new unfurling fronds, are key to C. distans. But the species hybridise as far as I can tell. C. austrotenuifolia is usually more lacey with broader fronds, and C. sieberi is usually more "gnarled" - constricted folded over pinnae.
