Mike, I suspect you have Ranunculus muricatus, the leaf shape seems to be a bit variable in the illustrations for this species but it does look somewhat like the images here: http://keyserver.lucidcentral.org/weeds/data/080c0106-040c-4508-8300-0b0a06060e01/media/html/Ranunculus_muricatus.htm

Also the spines on the achene are pretty diagnostic of this buttercup
