Good photos Silke - and brings to our attention just how hard in can be to tell the two apart based just on flower photos

Sorry I posted too early I meant to say how hard it is to tell Hypochaeris flowers from those of Yam Daisy

On second thoughts I think this is Leontodon rhagadioloides (formerly Hedypnois rhagadioloides) because of the tubercle based hairs on the leaves, which Hypochaeris glabra never has. These two species are both about the same height and the 'petals' are about the same length. The characters in PlantNET that distinguish them are that the top of the flower head in Hypochaeris at the base of the 'petals' is scaly, and the seeds of Hypochaeris are like dandelion fluff (feathery). The top of the flower head in Leontodon rhagadioloides at the base of the 'petals' is not scaly and the seeds re not feathery.

If it is of any help, the plants are pretty small. Perhaps around 5-8cm in height and the flowers were about 8mm in diameter.

That is certainly helpful and narrows it down to those two species. I would prefer another moderator to have a think about it before we sign it off.

Leontodon rhagadioloides does seem to be a good fit, my only hesitation is that the Atlas of NSW describes it as having leaves on its flowering stems, which I cannot see. Perhaps Leontodon saxatalis?
