awesome critters - when they mature in their host in the parasite phase they alter their light perception so the host is drawn to water and drown. Enabling the worm to complete its life cycle.

Great sighting, I have never seen a worm of this type so large. Unfortunately we don't have anyone on the team able to narrow this down to genus or species so it will have to live in the Nematomorpha (phylum) box as you have suggested until we find someone with more expertise in this area.

Yes they were moving , I presume they had come out of the spider, I had never seen this sort of thing before, didn't find it particularly nice to watch.
