photos show flower head with silky shelter in situ in the garden, side on view when picked, shelter removed from flower, partly dissected shelter incorporating floral structures, florets removed from flower - no insect seen in the dissected shelter

Thanks. It seems we are too late, the larvae have probably been predated. Are there any more cocoons in the vicinity that you can check for incumbents ?

caterpillars from several families make silk shelters like this,: particularly Oecophoridae, Tortricidae, and Pyraloidea, although Oecophoridae are inclined only to feed on Myrtaceae.
