This sulphur crested cockatoo looked brave, persistent, confused then dejected, because the perfect hollow had been occupied by unwelcome squatters - European honeybees. The SCC pecked at the hive a few times , and nipped a couple of bees before being overwhelmed by angry occupants and flying off. A sad example of the impact these feral insects have on our native animals (I understand that this hollow had supported a number of fledgings from various bird species before the take-over a couple of years ago - which is also when I reported to relevant authorities)
