The differences between Acacia ulicifolia and Acacia genistifolia are fairly difficult to see. The easiest is that ulicifolia retains its sharp pointed stipules at the bases of the phyllodes (‘leaves’) while genistifolia usually does not. Ulicifolia phyllodes taper gradually to a sharp point while genistifolia phyllodes narrow abruptly to a sharp point (I had to blow photo 2 up a lot to see this). Genistifolia phyllodes are usually round in cross-section, sometimes square. Ulicifolia phyllodes are square in cross-section, occasionally more or less flat. Betty
This looks like A. ulicifolia to me. The phyllodes are flattened and widest at the gland near the base. I don't find the stipules as a reliable guide. I don't see any 2nd photo.
A bit careless. Of course there is no photo 2. I agree that the phyllodes are widest near the base but my impression when I blew up the photo was that they are cylindrical rather than flattened, and that they do narrow abruptly to the sharp point.
mcleana, could you comment on the shape of the phyllodes please?
If you enlarge around the top middle flowers you can see the vein in the phyllodes, offset slightly so the side nearest the gland is wider. I don't know if that's what the botanists look for but I find it reliable, at least when the vein is distinct.
