I thank Chris Cargill for confirming the ID. Also in the photos, though out of focus, is a species of Fossombronia – another liverwort genus, The plants often look like bundles of miniature crisped lettuces. Here (http://www.anbg.gov.au/bryophyte/photos-captions/fossombronia-wondraczekii-136.html) are some with one immature spore capsule. Here (http://www.anbg.gov.au/bryophyte/photos-captions/fossombronia-133.html) you see a close view of two young spore capsules. When mature they are raised on flimsy, translucent stalks as shown here (http://www.anbg.gov.au/bryophyte/photos-captions/fossombronia-intestinalis-135.html). Species of the genus may also grow in dense mats, rather than as straggly lines (http://www.anbg.gov.au/bryophyte/photos-captions/fossombronia-130.html).
