I realise, now looking at it, how hard it is to communicate an intuitive 'gestalt' about a particular group - objectively its quite hard to pick out obvious characters here. The wing venation is o.o.f so that it actually looks similar to a calyptrate.... The most striking things for me are the depression in the head between the eyes, and the antenna (the arista is much longer relative to the last antennal segment). The aristae of Lucilia are plumose (brush or comb-like), rather than practically bare as they are here. But this is a pretty robust Dolichopodid...
