I'm wondering if I should have suggested Smyriodes undescribed species nr aplectaria instead. Maybe we should not have a separate S. trigramma?

I'm not sure, I seem to recall Glen saying it didn't occur here, but we should raise the issue with him again. Not sure how you tell the two apart. Moths of the ACT is silent on S .trigramma.

Glenn C. maintains that S. trigramma is primarily 'a western species' but that its presence in the ACT cannot be ruled out. Glenn won't be active on CNM for about a fortnight till he returns from Qld. Bold Systems 4 records tend to bear this out as do the notes for A. trigramma in Moths of Victoria (Part 5). MoV also says S. aplectaria occurs in the ACT too. Looking closely based on the MoV reference images for the two named species I would say there is a discernable difference in main forewing wing pattern between these two species. This record I would say is closer to S. trigramma than S. aplectaria. Looking at Bold Systems I would say S. trigramma is distinct (ie. much more scalloped foriwung main line) whereas differentiating between S, aplectaria and the un-named Smyriodes sp. is more difficult.

ANIC treats the local specimens as an undescribed species. Differentiating single photos among the three species isn't going to work well. We should call them the undescribed species until more is known.
