It is very hard to separate Homalictus from small Lasioglossum species, but no Homalictus has white hair bands. Because this species is very small, it may be in either the subgenus Lasioglossum (Chilalictus) or in Lasioglossum (Ctenonomia). As a technical footnote, it has been suggested, on the basis of dna studies, that Homalictus should be treated as a subgenus of Lasioglossum but currently Homalictus is still listed as a genus in the Australian Faunal Directory.
