Sagittaria platyphylla is a nasty weed.

Is there any chance its Alisma plantago-aquatica?
There is some confusion about these two, especially look on the field guide at both plants and they both have the same flowers on them. I think there might be an error on one of the entries.

Yes they are similar. That's why I didn't confirm. Maybe you could go back later when the plant is flowering.

I will definitely go back to check for flowers and hopefully can update this sighting when I do.

I asked Jane Roberts out this one who said "definitely not Alisma plantago-aquatica
Its either Alisma lanceolata or Sagittaria platyphlla. We would need to wait for flowering to work out which it really it is, with any confidence.
But as both these are introduced nuisance species, it probably isn’t worthwhile waiting until flowering"

Both ponds within the Dunlop Grasslands NR were checked but the Sagittaria was not located.
The ponds checked were at the end of Douglas Waterhouse Dr and the one at the corner of Kerrigan St and Branson St.

That's interesting. The one in the photo was in the dam at end of Douglass Waterhouse Drive. I'm guessing someone has removed it???

Ranger staff have now removed this weed and hopefully all its rhizomes. Thanks for bringing it to our attention
