Young cuckoos aren't easy, but going off Morcombe I'd expect a young Brush Cuckoo to be more marked on the back.

Confirmed after consulting my copy of the Australian Bird Guide. Juvenile Brush Cuckoos are far more mottled all over and paler underneath, compared with juvenile Fan-tailed Cuckoo which is darker brown and also plainer (not as much mottling).
