Wow, this is a great find!!!!!!!!, congratulations. I spent a quite of bit of time in that area looking for this species, but concentrated my effort beside the wetland off Badja FT. When we did the fauna surveys back in 1992 the species was claimed to be in that area but in the end we doubted the claim (thought the guy may have confused it it Lim dumerilii) as there was no photographic evidence and no tadpoles could be found. Looks like the area had been logged recently as well.
I am curious about the date of this record. Is this an updated taxonomy for the 1976 record or is this a new record? I am the field ecologist with Forestry NSW and I would be very interested to know more about this finding.
It is not a new record. The only Heleioporus I recorded on 17Mar1976 at Badja was this specimen, lodged with the CSIRO ANWC in Canberra as A625. The image was posted with CNM but the South Coast NM split off later on and it may have re appeared seemingly as another record. If I can help further my email is jlwombey@bigpond.com Cheers John Wombey
It seems that wombey made the records in 2016. Can he inform us any more on the record? We also did work there for the CRA in 1998/99 and never found frogs or tadpoles of this species.
Michael Mahony and his team did a revision of this species taxonomy. See https://doi.org/10.11646/zootaxa.5016.4.1 cheers
Dear John, I told Mike about the specimen and looked it up on ALA. It may have genetic material that he can use to better understand the species complex.
