The reniform and orbicular marks do look well for Neumichtis. I think N. nigerrima is the one most often recorded in the ACT and I have a couple of specimens that have the black line near the base of the inner margin that I can't seen yet in a photo or specimen of any other Neumichtis species. But N. nigerrima specimens consistently live up to their name, and this photo/specimen would have to be very washed out to be that species. There are quite a few undescribed Neumichtis which I'll look at.
Definitely N. nigerrima, the underlying pattern of lines and spots matches closely and it has been confirmed that the moth was black on the hoof. If the hue in the photo were accepted, N. expulsa that Don suggested, previously recorded on Black Mountain, would have been a prospect, even though the underlying pattern isn't as close.
