Hi Cath, Iridomyrmex are generally pretty similar looking to Myrmecorhynchus, so you were not far wrong. Coincidentally there was another sighting of this species at the same time (4263753) with some closer images which show the ant pretty well. They seem to be much more common in the cold weather.
