User's notes

I am not sure what species this spider is. Initially it was building a web but when it became aware of me it hurried to the leaf you see in the photograph.

I think it's either Cheiracanthium sp or Clubiona sp - a sac spider. I first thought Clubiona sp from the forward-pointing, large and somewhat dark chelicerae. But then I was tempted to suggest Cheiracanthium sp because it seems that this individual has distinctly shorter third legs which appear to be a shared characteristic amongst Cheiracanthium sp based off images in Whyte & Anderson's guide. However, I think both are still likely, neither are ruled out and I'm not sure I can definitively point to either ID.

Hi Yumi, Many thanks for trying to ID this spider. I had looked through Whyte and Anderson but not with the knowledge you bring to it. As always, I really found your comment useful as I would not have realised by myself what you pointed out. Again, many thanks for trying to ID this spider for me. All the best, Jon
