Significant sighting

MichaelMulvaney noted:

Any reports of birds with leg bands in the ACT region are important as they add to our knowledge of how birds born in or breeding in the ACT move across the landscape

User's notes

A flock of around 30 Superbs grazing on a smorgasbord, it seems, including bluebells. One male superb had a silver band on his leg - photos 2 and 3.

Lisa H - if this bird is still around and you have a good pair of binoculars we would really like to get the numbers engraved in the band .

This is a significant sighting and would appreciate notification of any Superb Parrot wearing a leg-band or bands, numbers engraved into the band and colour of band would be fantastic to know. This bird is definitely part of an ACT Superb Parrot research project that has been going since 2015. What we know from the fact that it is male, and does not have a colour-band on its left tarsus, is that it is either:

- a bird that we tracked as an adult in 2015 or 2017, while it was raising young at Goorrooyaroo NR (2015) or in the Molonglo Valley(2017)
- a bird that was born and raised at Goorrooyarroo in 2015 (4 y/o)
- a bird that was born and raised at Molonglo in 2018 (1 y/o - less likely based on his brilliant colours)

Thanks Michael - that's exciting. There was a flock around this morning - I'll go out now and have a better look.
