Vagrant to the area with few records. The last ACT record in 2014 (and CNM area in 2015). First for CNM.

Hi Rawshorty,

I also saw this bird at the wetlands yesterday afternoon.
Me and some other birding friends thought it was most likely a Marsh Sandpiper.
But not 100% sure, we'll wait and see what the others think.

It appears that eBird is approving Marsh but i got other opinions that it was a Greenshank. Bit wet and windy to go down this morning to try for better pics :(

I am getting more people saying it is a Marsh Sandpiper so have changed my eBird list. It is not there today.

Thanks for the update Shorty. I can't believe it's come and gone before I even realised it had been reported! The one time I don't check CNM or ebird for a few hours... better get my act together I suppose so I don't get caught out again :D
I'll leave this one to the consensus of those who have experience with shorebirds.

I still have quite a few common species on my year needs alert so I've tended to ignore the emails and check the alerts list via the website when I feel like it. Clearly not frequently enough.

With the shocking weather i have been going through my pics and guide book and discussion on ABID with other birders i conclude it is a Common Greenshank.

One of the photos on eBird (5th photo at https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S56743662) show an upturned bill which would rule out Marsh Sandpiper

Yes, The slightly upturned bill, black dots on the wings, lack of white eyebrow and size with pics i have of it next to a Teal rule out Marsh and enforce Greenshank.

I have had many shore bird experts confirm my sighting as Common Greenshank with the latest being Nigel Jacket who until recently was a Warden at the Broome Bird Observatory and currently doing Shore Bird research in China, he is also an Australia wide moderator for eBird and was willing to moderate my sighting for me. This was not needed as mine and others sightings have been confirmed on eBird. I would think this could now be confirmed on here.
