I could not identify this fungus. It may be a Puffball Fungus that has recently emerged out of the ground and is starting to split open to allow the spores to take flight.

This has a tough skin which splits a little irregularly from the top, the segments then folding back to allow wind dispersal of the spores. Even without a scale bar, you can see the whitish cross-section of the skin and the nearby twig litter helps convey the idea of thickness. In Calvatia the skin breaks irregularly and falls off, rather then the split-and-fold-back process.
