I was trying to get out of having to make a call on this one! I do agree Rufous Songlark is a better fit, based on the lack of streaking and plainer face than I would expect for a pipit

I can't think of any birds that start out unstreaked and gain streaks as they get older... it seems to always be the other way round

Australasian Pipits have a thin malar stripe, Rufous Songlarks have a rufous rump.

The following sighting of mine, of an Australian Pipit, confirmed by Chris, also lacks the malar stripe. Perhaps they are both Rufous Songlarks:

Michael, I think that the other sighting is a Pipit as I can't see any rufous, the wing pattern is slightly different and it has striations on the chest. I now agree that this sighting is most likely a Rufous Songlark. Great comments everyone! Note to self: do not post the photos of the little brown bird you took without a telephoto lens (aka Sandra's Pipit Songlark). ;)

Hi Michael

I confirmed this on the basis that there is no streaking on the chest.
It also appears (not very clear though) to have a rufous tinged rump.
