User's notes

One of two of this ant species sighted together on this tree. The second ant is covered in another post. Both ants were very active and rarely still enough to photograph.

This ant is a bit harder to ID than most. Polyrhachis semiaurata should have a golden sheen on the head, and the similar ant, Polyrhachis ammon, should have a golden sheen on the tail (gaster). This ant (and the other sited) has neither, though could be old and have had the sheen worn off, but that doesn't help when it comes to making an ID.

Kim - any ideas?

Can't add anything at this point, Jon. The images are good, so I'll check it against any other images online and see if I can get any further.

I should have worked it out earlier - it's one of the same species that we have at our place! I think there may be one or two other posts of this species that were not IDed, so I'll tidy them up.
