A new weed from America not previously recorded in the ACT, though there is a 2004 record from just outside the border. Seems to eb mainly a weed of disturbed areas.

Not Alternanthera pungens, whose outer periant segments are sort of papery and have sharp points. I don't think it is Alternanthera at all in fact. The flowers appear to be flattish with 5 lobes. It does not appear to be in the Biosecurity Queensland ID key. I ticked search fields herb habit, creeping, white flower, 5 petals, and flower size small or medium. None of the 53 weeds that resulted looked anything like this plant. It could be family Boraginaceae, but looks nothing like any weedy borage I know.

One of those images is a comparison between Alternanthera pungens and Guilleminea densa. Plantnet key to Amaranthaceae sates that flower clusters in Alternanthera are hairless, and in Guilleminea hairy. The hairs round the flowers are obvious in your photos.

Three plants collected for Herbarium. They have big woody roots. Updated abundance because I found another patch nearby (would have to be dug out).
