Thanks Kim, very cool. Are these common? There were two really healthy looking ones like this and potentially more in the same garden, I counted 3 butterflies of some sort in a very small area and didn't have a broader look around.

Yes Aaron, it's quite a common butterfly in Canberra, and easily the biggest species here.

The black dot on the side doesn't look natural to me. Could be an injury or maybe an indication there is (or was) a parasitoid inside it.

Looks like a parasitoid emergence hole. The pale grey colour suggest the pupa may be dead.
