Could be a phebalium, possibly Ovate phebalium - Nematolepis ovatifolium

Your suggestion is possible, but I am not sure the leaves are the right shape. The Plantnet description of Nematolepis ovatifolium seems to fit the shrub I saw particularly as the description mentions that it is pink when in bud (can be seen in the photo) and grows on granite ridges in the Snowy mountains
