I hope its okay if I put this echidna in. I noticed a butterfly sighting in the main CNM, so I don't think this is overly out of CNM's scope, and Monotremes are easy enough to identify.

Hehe :) Well this is one very lucky echidna Ryu because he/she has now been mapped and the information will make a difference!!! Yes hopefully we can add other species categories like this in the future. More to come...

Ryu and Aaron: I don't think we should record mammals in the reptiles section unless we create a separate section and call the dataset reptiles, frogs and mammals. I think this should be discussed with Michael. I would be happy to facilitate this until I get out of my depth.

You can register and record animals directly with Atlas of Living Australia or OzAtlas but then it would be harder for people to view than on Canberra Nature Map, which is so fantastic for users.

That's correct, while of course we would LOVE to be able to support mammals, we simply aren't setup to cater for it at this point (site structure, species, moderators, icons) etc. Of course Ryu is onto something as it's easy to see that the same model/engine would support it, but I think at this early stage we have to be harsh to be kind and remove the sighting for now. BUT I am confident that mammals would probably get added at some stage, possibly later next year, once the expansion to include Reptiles, Frogs, Birds and Butterflies is completed properly and nicely bedded in. Thanks for your patience and understanding guys and Ryu I love your enthusiasm please watch this space...

I have taked to Michael Mulvaney about this. He is optimistic that we could add mammals in 2016-17 if we can get funding. Apparently, Roger Farrow is keen to start recording grasshoppers. I totally agree with Arron. CNM is growing very fast, which is great, but given we have waited so long for something like this, we need to hasten slowly.
