I'm just putting it out there as a possibility... Looks similar to D. semilunulata and also noting the late-ish time of the season when the sighting was recorded.

Although I have confirmed this as D. pardina I am not certain. Aaron's comment is valid in that it can be confused with D. semilunulata which does flower later, but to me the labellum side lobes are not broadly rounded which is a characteristic of D. semilunulata. But happy to be corrected. I'm not familiar with the orchids of the Bullen Range but plan to take a look this spring.

That explains it well Tony, thanks I wasn't certain. But it's a brilliant, crystal clear photograph either way. Great photography KenT.

Thanks Tony and Aaron, I find many of these orchids very awkward to identify and would be completely lost without the Jones et al. 2008 field guide, but as great as that book is, it can't capture and display the full range of variability within a species and this variability is something I have no feeling for. So, all comments most welcome!

I agree KenT. I have been bugging Tony for almost 2 years now with regards to "what's this and what's that". It can be tricky... There is also the excellent Field Guide to the Orchids of the ACT which I always carry in my backpack too which has Jones + Tony + Jean Egan's local knowledge: http://bookshop.nla.gov.au/book/field-guide-to-the-orchids-of-the-act.do
