Have you kept any of the plants? If so, could you press one and take it to the botanic gardens for a definite confirmation and permanent record in the Canberra herbarium.
The current Census of Plants of the ACT records it as formerly naturalised in the ACT. The date given for the record in the Canberra herbarium is 1970.

Thanks for reporting and removing these plants Rob. Waltraud can you please alert all your park carers to keep an eye out for any other plants which should be destroyed as a matter of urgency.

Thanks Don/Betty and Michael. I have retained and pressed all the plants and will drop in at ANBG for confirmation/record. I should have checked other registers, just checked Canberra Nature Map on the fly. Hope it’s the last record but fear it won’t be... i only had a 5 min search trackside at Majura pines on a morning ride so good chance there is more around :( a couple of plants were not yet flowering but reckon if there are more they will reveal themselves soon enough...

On closer inspection it may be Brachyscome diversifolia var. diversifolia - bracts are loosely overlapping. Will get to ANBG ASAP to confirm either way and let you know. R

Thanks. I was wondering whether it might be a Brachyscome.

Oh dear. I started making a chart of the differences and got a lot of overlapping till I tried the Vicflora key to Asteraceae. In Leucanthemum the basal leaves wither early. In Brachyscome diversifolia they don’t.

Oh dear :( I am confident on Brachyscome now but will submit the herbarium in any case and let you know! As Michael says, better 100 false IDs then 1 positive for this one...

hi all
over several years we confused Large headed daisy with Ox-eye daisy within the Mt Majura nature reserve. We removed 100s of daisies before a proper id :(
I learned a lesson!

Thanks Waltraud - life would be boring if we all weren't learning new things
