Not sure about this 'confirmation', this moth has a different forewing shape than Uraba, as described in Moths of Victoria. OK patterns/colour can vary but wing shape much less so.

You do not seem to give an approx size?
Was it too big for Nolidae?
Too small for Geometridae?
The wingshape does look more like a Geometrid, maybe Nacophorini or Larentiinae,
but looking at likely suspects:
the third line is too curved for Crypsiphona ocultaria
the third line is too smooth for Epipristis oxyodonta
the first line is wrong for Hypobapta barnardi
the first line is wrong for Pingasa chlora
the second line is wrong for Dysbatus singularis
the second line is wrong for Smyriodes aplectaria
the second line is wrong for Stibaroma melanotoxa
the first line is wrong for Chrysolarentia plagiocausta
the costal curves of the 2nd and 3rd lines are wrong for Hypycnopa delotis
the lines are too well-defined for Idaea ferrilinea

On a second look, I agree this is not U. lugens because in set examples of that species viible online the hindwings are uniform grey , whereas this specimen shows that at least the trailing edge of the hindwing on the LHS and RHS shows black barring aligning with the a major (third?) forewing line on both sides. The head looks the wrong shape for Uraba as well.

The three named Lipogya species I can see online all show black barring on the trailing edge of the hindwings as in this specimen. The specimen shows enough to just see it has pectinate antennae suggesting that if it is a Lipogya species it would be a male. However the main forewing line on the forewing in each of the three male Lipogya species looks more wavy than the more smoothly curving line in this specimen. This main forewing line seems to have a shape more typical in the female Lipogya examples I can see online.

Ian thanks for your efforts here. OK, fore wing length (from body to tip) is about 10-12 mm. It is obviously a male and to my eye it is a geometrid of some sort.. Yes it does not fit easily with images of specific species of Lipogyra that are available on account of detail of wing pattern. I have uploaded another photo more close, the CNM does not display photos well I find, say compared to flikr.

It's certainly not Uraba lugens, and is probably a worn or lightly patterned Lipogya exprimataria. The species is variable, and I can see the forewing pattern elements in the photo present in different set L. exprimatararia specimens. The inner margin of the hindwing however shows more distinct dark markings than the set specimens, so there is still some doubt.
