User's notes

Kestrel pair mating (photo no.1). Photo no.2 shows the male flying off afterwards. Female stayed on the tree for a while before flying around in the area (photos no.3 & no.4). First time to see 2 together in the reserve.

There was a pair on MT Wanniassa for many years that had a nest near the dam and raised 3 or so young each year. They would spend a lot of time on Farrer Ridge but they disappeared about five or 6 years ago. I put it down to the St Johns Wort infestation across their hunting ground masses of yellow flowers and knee high brown seed heads all year round instead of grass Impossible to spot prey in these situations. Nothing is done to eradicate weeds in the southside reserves shame on the people who are supposed to look after and manage these reserves.

I have had intermittent sightings of up to 2 since then in the area, Julie. The birds seem to stay for a few months before disappearing for several, and repeat. No breeding that I am aware of.
