Author's notes

Podoscypha petalodes perhaps? The margin of the funnels is not quite as crisped as in the photos I have of this species in a couple of fungi books, but that's the closest looking species in any of my books. It was growing at the base of a burnt shrub stem, on the wood, in a dampish gully running into White Rock River. The pores on the underside are very fine.

Looks like what I used to call Podoscypha petalodes but it would be 25 years since I've come across it in the ACT bush out at the Tidbinbilla nature reserve, haven't been back since the fires.

Podoscypha petalodes is very likely, provided there are no pores. In that species the underside of the fruit body is smooth (just like a Stereum) and was first known as Stereum petalodes.

I've cropped a closer look at the underside out of photo 4 and added it. It looks a bit dimply but nothing I'd call pores. Has a look at the piece I brought home with a 10X lens and can't see any pores.

PS I see this species is not on the CNM list, so if one of you wants to confirm it, you'll need to add it to the list first.

Jackie, I'll add Podoscypha petalodes to the CNM list and, as usual with new fungi, put in a brief description, comment on look-alikes and perhaps some other notes. But I won't do that until next week.

OK, and add these or your photos of it if you have them to the ID page?

Thanks Heino. I see there's no images of this species in the fungus ID pages yet, so do you want to add these or others there?
