Author's notes

The ALG infestation in the Maffra Lake TSR has worsened considerably in the last few years, from scattered patches in the grassland to large swathes, and small plants have also appeared on the dry lake bed (4th photo), presumably from seed that fell in the water, then germinated as the lake level dropped. From being salvageable, the situation has become very difficult to impossible to do anything about, a lamentable state of affairs since the site carries at least 2 threatened plants and 2 EECs (Nat Temp Grassland and Upland Lakes).

The 4th photo looks like a different grass.

Hello Michael,
Thanks for alerting us to this. I am passing this on to Rod Pietsch, who is the accountable officer for the endangered Pelargonium at Maffra Lake. I understand from Damon that there have been some efforts to control Love Grass at Maffra Lake, but more work clearly needed.

Regards,
John

Hi Michael B, I think the 4th photo is also ALG, just stunted because it was growing in presumably less congenial conditions. I didn't look closely at it, but the GISS was of ALG.
